Why Jilbabs Come Under Debate

In the East and West, the jilbab has become a symbol of practicing Muslim women which has come under much discussion and debate. In most cases, it is considered a long cloak of dark colour which is thrown over one’s indoor clothing. Modern Jilbabs, however, come in all styles and colours and while some may argue that this goes against the concept of modesty others have welcomed this trend.

In addition to the typical jilbab designs, a quick search on the Internet will reveal everything from sportswear to officewear to elegant jilbabs designed especially for special events such as weddings and parties. In fact, a new addition to this range is the ‘burkini’ which is a swimming suit for Muslim women who want to keep fit while guarding their modesty at the same time.
