Before the arrival of the cupcake to the kitchens of America, cakes were manufactured by weighing the ingredients. It’s been advised this is maybe where the term “Cupcakes” originated, since everything was measured in cups. Other origins of the name have also been offered , for example the incontrovertible fact they are baked in a cup but at one point, cupcakes were also called “number cakes”
