Why is the SD Card Such a Popular Memory Card

For a long time now the sd memory card has been the most popular type of digital memory card. But why has the sd card become so popular. Well i believe the reasons are as follows. SD cards are not licensed to one particular company which means that anybody can produce them. This means that there is alot of competition so the prices of them come down. It also means that any digital camera producer can use and sd card or sdhc card in their camera. Even Sony who used to use their own Memory Stick Pro Duo memory cards are now producing their latest digital cameras with an SDHC card slot.
