For a class assignment, I had to find the mandate for the WCB in BC. I found something on the work safe BC website that was entitled “Our Mandate,” so I used that. Workers’ compensation origins are based on the historic agreement that workers can not sue their employer as long as the employer funds a no-fault insurance plan. The Workers Compensation Act created WorkSafeBC which promotes a safe, injury-free workplace. This independent agency has a government appointed board of directors to run its operations. If injured, the victim will be rehabilitated and will receive fair compensation while recovering is a major mandate.
