Tax accounting requires a basic knowledge of federal and state tax laws. Tax accountant job openings require candidates with bachelor’s degrees in accounting, business, or finance, or equivalent years of work experience in tax accounting and tax return compliance, along with good technical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of software such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and various programs for preparing tax returns is also required.
